After a series of screenings at the One World festival and successes in 2023, which you can read about here, at the end of April the documentary The World According to My Dad won the award for the best popular science film in the Czech-Slovak competition of the international festival Academia Film Olomouc. In May and June, it will take part in other competitions at festivals in Germany, Poland, Italy and Ukraine.
At the end of April, the documentary The World According to My Dad won the Czech-Slovak Competition section of the 59th International Festival of Popular Science Films Academia Film Olomouc. After three screenings and the traditional debates with the audience, the director Marta Kovářová with her father Jiří Svoboda and the film’s producers Jan Bodnar and Jan Hubáček received the award. Already in 2023, the film won the Student Jury Award and the Online Audience Award at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival or a special mention from the International Jury at the One World International Documentary Film Festival in Bratislava.
The film will now take Jiří’s idea of a Global Carbon Tax to other places in Europe.
From 14-19 May 2024, the documentary will take part in the Nisa Film Festival, which is held annually in the Czech-German-Polish tri-border area and features contemporary documentary, feature and short films from Czech, German and Polish productions, as well as from other Eastern European countries. The World According to My Dad will be screened in the Czech Panorama film section. More information about the screenings can be found on the festival website, for example here.
From 31 May to 9 June 2024, the 21st Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival will take place in Kiev, where the documentary will also be screened in the competition section.
At the beginning of June, from 4 to 9 June 2024, the 27th Cinemambiente Festival will take place in Turin, Italy, with the participation not only of the documentary film, but also of Marta Kovářová and the protagonist Jiří Svoboda. The festival presents the best international films and documentaries about the environment, seeks to contribute to the promotion of cinema and environmental culture, and is one of the major European film festivals focused on environmental issues. The festival programme will be published soon on its website and social media.
