From the snowy wasteland to the video game – journey with Last Train Home

Since 2022, we have worked with videogame studios Ashborne Games and THQ Nordic on audiovisual promotional materials for the videogame Last Train Home. In addition to a series of seven videogame trailers and a Behind the Scenes segment about the making of the game, we produced the Making of Last Train Home documentary series about the making of the game. You can even see some of our scenes inside the videogame at the end, and the actor Karel Dobrý became one of the game’s characters after the trailers were made.

Last Train Home is a videogame by Czech videogame studio Ashborne Games, which was founded in 2020 in Brno as a new part of Austrian publisher THQ Nordic. The game follows the harrowing journey of Czechoslovak legionnaires of World War I through the Siberian wilderness back to their homeland. The last train from the front takes the crew back home.

To capture the atmosphere of the video game, we filmed on several winter locations in temperatures as low as -15°C, we worked with a historic locomotive and we collaborated with the Czechoslovak Legionary Community. The trailers were shot during 2022 and 2023, and some of the footage eventually made its way into the videogame environment. You can see more about the filming process, its dimensions, the crew’s hardships and experiences in the Behind the Announcement Trailer video we made to accompany the trailers.

The Making of Last Train Home documentary series will further introduce you to the process of making a videogame. In seven episodes, developers, designers, creatives, and other team members take you behind the scenes of the videogame development studio. You can find all the episodes, for example, in the LinkTree here.

The game was a success on the international and Czech videogame market. It has received excellent reviews and critics, and has been written about by renowned magazines including The New York Times and The Guardian. After its publication, it was one of the best-selling games in the world.

You can find more information about our work for Last Train Home in the project portfolio. You can watch the videos on the YouTube channels of THQ Nordic, Ashborne Games or GNOMON, or you can find them all together in our LinkTree.

We’ve worked on other videogames in the past. Between 2014 and 2020 we worked on videos for the indie game studio Charles Games‘ video game Freedom 1945: Liberation. Project was a unique combination of adventure game, full-motion video interviews, and historically accurate interactive memoirs of people who lived through the chaos of the aftermath of World War II.

In 2022, we also collaborated on promotional materials for 2K Czech‘s game Mafia: Definitive Edition.

We look forward to more videogame collaborations! Stay tuned.
